how broken have we become

How broken have we become
that kindness has no voice
in every day that shines
how broken have we become
that goodness is a maze
with no escape
how broken have we become
when tears are burning words
of weakness and dismay

so broken we have become
the seed of doubt has run
its course through the earth
and grown to the sky
a beanstalk of lies
so broken have we become
we accept the lies and guns
the dead children who cried
and their parents who wished
it was instead them who died
so broken have we become
there is no decency left
these words are bereft
on deaf ears fallen and wrecked
cause there’s nothing kind left to say

how broken have we become
when our discourse is to scream
in 140 characters or less
tell no truths bleed only in lies
heed only in words with demonic ties
segretation and separation
pretend the colors have more meaning than hue
how broken have we become
when the truth is but
a vacant gasp and wheeze
a dry heave a failing
tears shed to dry and blow away
in the wicked dying breeze
broken we have become

no doubt left our wicked depth
no waste left our sickened sweat
no twinkle left our diminshed regret
no sympathy left our tarnished halo in threat
