Pain is when you know

My senses melt away like
ice on the sidewalk of a summer day
the color fades, smell goes away
the tingle of touch, the taste of rust,
the sound of music, and life continues anyway

if it’s just words on a page
a black and white photo
crumbled and thrown away
if it’s still perceived
it’s still worth living

It hurts, it makes me crazy,
self worth slowly melts away
and all that’s left is
the condensed version of me
without any baubles confusing

Pain is when you know you’re alive
confusion and hurt are just a ride
on your knees but still rising
the sky may be grey but rain drops remind
pain in when you know you’re alive

Once a bright sunny day arise
the sky turns blue the grass is green
the lake is calm with a gentle breeze
and she walks towards me with a smile so free
this moment without a doubt is a dream

but she lays her hand on my heart
she speaks like an angels chime
her words pierce through the gloom and doom
your sense of self becomes to bloom
like pain swept away by the broom

It hurts, it makes me crazy,
self worth slowly comes to being
there’s no room left for anything else
this blown up version of me
without any baubles confusing

Pain is when you know you’re alive
confusion and hurt are just a ride
on your knees but still rising
the sky isn’t grey and the rain isn’t falling
pain is when you know you’re alive
